Amanda Bynes says she gained more than 20 pounds while suffering from depression, shares dramatic weight-loss goals
Amanda Bynes is ready for a fresh start.
The “Easy A” star shared on her Instagram Story on Thursday that she had been suffering from depression, which led to her weight gain, but thankfully she’s “much better” now and is ready to get back in shape.
“I have gained over 20 pounds in the last few months due to depression,” she wrote. “I feel much better now and have learned to do the opposite when I don’t feel like exercising or eating clean.”
Bynes, 37, said she currently weighs 162 pounds but wants to lose weight to 110 pounds.
The “Amanda Show” star previously admitted she “abused” Adderall, a medication primarily used to treat concentration issues, to maintain a certain weight.
“They were talking about how women manipulate it to stay thin. ‘Well, I have to get my hands on that,'” she told Paper in 2018, adding that she got a prescription after visiting “a psychiatrist and faking symptoms of ADD.”
Bynes recalled how she “used to chew Adderall pills” in her promotional clip while filming 2010’s “Hall Pa*s,” which left her “so distracted” that she couldn’t memorize her lines.
She eventually dropped out of the film due to her addiction.

“I made a bunch of mistakes but I didn’t get fired. I left… It was definitely very unprofessional of me to leave and leave them stranded when they spent so much money on a set and crew and camera equipment and everything.
The former Nickelodeon star has been in and out of treatment centers for her mental health, and was placed in psychiatric detention last year after she was found wandering around Los Angeles naked. She remained in the facility for a few weeks before being released.
Two months later, the authorities placed Bynes in psychiatric detention again after the police arrested her. Although she spent a few weeks there, she was eventually released and checked back in of her own volition.
Since living on her own again, Bynes, whose eight-year conservatorship ended in 2022, has been playing with her appearance, even admitting to getting plastic surgery on her eyelids to boost her confidence. She also briefly dyed her hair black before returning to platinum blonde.
