At the MTV VMAs, the fashion is as loud as the music — and the 2023 red carpet looks are no exception.
On September 12, celebrities descended on the Prudential Center in New Jersey, wearing everything from bold cutouts to dazzling sequins.

Taylor Swift
In a seemingly tailor-made move – do it Taylor-made – for Swifties to speculate on a release date for “Reputation (Taylor’s Version),” this year’s most nominated artist went bolder than usual for the evening, hitting the pink carpet in an asymmetrical dress black Atelier Versace dotted with the luxury brand’s logo. Iconic gold Medusa hardware.
A sprinkling of sparkling chains and diamonds from Anita Ko, Maria Tash and Joseph Saidian and Sons further upped the glamor factor.
Selena Gomez
This might be the best look the “Single Soon” singer has ever had. Gomez looked stunning in this hand-beaded scarlet backless gown by Oscar de la Renta, which featured a skirt formed of delicate floral tendrils.
Diamonds from Giardini Segreti, including a pair of stunning butterfly earrings, completed the star’s secret garden-worthy style.
Olivia Rodrigo
The “Vampire” singer tends to mix punk-inspired pieces with preppy pieces in her everyday life — but when it comes to the red carpet, we think she looks her best in simple, clean silhouettes like this one.
Rodrigo de Ludovic de Saint Sernin’s elegant Swarovski crystal-encrusted tank dress hit all the right notes, and the star smartly kept her accessories and beauty look minimal so as not to overwhelm with all that sparkle.

Both s*xy and sophisticated, the “Sweetest Pie” rapper’s Brandon Blackwood strapless corset dress fits her like a glove. A whopping 129 carats of Jacob & Co. bling was the icing on the cake.

This year’s Video Vanguard Award winner looked beautiful as gold in this backless chainmail creation from Atelier Versace that clung to her every curve.
Shakira brought her sons Milan and Sasha as her dates for the big night, with both boys sporting baroque-print Versace tracksuits.

Make no secret – the “Best Friend” rapper looked amazing in this hot Area number. Wilma Flintstone, but make it fashionable.
Maneskin
VMA viewers may remember that the Italian rockers’ revealing ensembles were censored during last year’s broadcast, which might explain why they opted for more covered-up (but still bold) outfits this time around !) by Rick Owens. Either way, they looked fantastic.

Arguably the best-dressed man on the VMA carpet, “Until I Found You” singer Sanchez looked dapper in his powder blue Gucci bow blouse and bamboo-handle Diana bag.

The TikTok-famous sisters looked stylish beyond their years in a duo of perfectly fitted strapless dresses; Charli wore a bow midi by ShuShu/Tong, while Dixie dazzled in a sculptural Maticevski column.
