Charli XCX confirms she has written the songs for a potential new Britney Spears album

Charli XCX has confirmed that she has been tapped to write songs for Britney Spears’ potential tenth studio album.

The “Official” songstress candidly revealed that she worked with the Princess of Pop team on the project during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live” on Monday.

But after “the news leaked to the press,” things changed.

Charli, 31, explained that she then learned that Spears may not have been aware of the process, as the “toxic” singer took to social media to debunk claims she would be returning to music in January.

“Britney then made this post where she said, ‘I don’t have random people writing me.’ I was like, ‘Okay, go!’” “So I don’t know that it was part of the process,” the songwriter continued.

“Her team was running before they could walk,” she added. Britney probably has a lot of other projects she’s focusing on. I’ve been asked but I don’t know if it’s real.

Andy Cohen wondered if Charlie wrote any pieces of music in the hope that Spears (42 years old) would record them.

“Of course,” the England batsman said. “She went to Malibu and wrote. ‘You always write songs hoping Britney will record them…but you know, she didn’t record them.’

However, she still holds out hope that Spears will change her mind, saying: “That would be a dream come true.”

Representatives for Spears were not immediately available for comment.

In January, sources told Page Six that Charlie and Julia Michaels were among the songwriters asked to work on the “Circus” singer’s potential new album.

At the time, the project was in its early stages and Spears had not recorded any of the songs.

The Grammy winner’s last album, “Glory,” was released in 2016, but she has since worked on smaller projects, including her “Hold Me Closer” collaboration with Elton John in 2021 and her track “Mind Your Business” with Will. In 2023.

Although Spears’ team has apparently pushed her to return to the recording studio, the pop star is hesitant and has vowed not to release another album in January.

“Just to be clear that most of the news is bullshit!!! “They keep saying I’m reaching out to random people to make a new album… I will never go back to the music industry!!!” the “Gimme More” singer wrote on Instagram at the time.

In September 2022, she also claimed that she would “probably never perform again” due to being “traumatized” on stage during her 13-year conservatorship.

While under the control of her father, Jamie Spears, the pop icon was forced to perform during her “Piece of Me” tour in New Jersey in 2018 despite having a 102-degree fever.

Before the conservatorship expired in November 2021, Britney testified that performing with a fever was “one of the scariest moments of her life.”

She later spoke of the patriarch’s abuses in her best-selling memoir, The Woman Inside Me, alleging that he also forced her to follow a “strict diet” of chicken and vegetables.
