Darlene Love’s Shows Sell Out After Mariah Carey Calls Her ‘Christmas Queen’
Mariah Carey is spreading the love this holiday season.
The “All I Want for Christmas is You” singer helped Darlene Love sell a gig series after she raved about her on Instagram.
Love’s rep Lee Evans shared that Carey’s effusive words helped Love sell her 11 holiday shows, TMZ reported.
Earlier this month, Spotify asked Carey why she decided to include Love’s classic song, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” on her holiday album. Carey then gave a huge shout out to Love, 81.
“I listened to this song every year, like every year and it was a tribute to Darlene Love, the Queen of Christmas, Darlene Love, whom we love!” Carey, 52, gushed. “We live for her, she can have this title forever, how we love this song.”
The Grammy winner went on to explain that she loves the “Wall of Sound” created by the song’s producer, Phil Spector.
“The ‘wall of sound,’ that Phil Spector moment,” she continued. “As a musician, as a producer, as a writer, you know my respect for this particular Christmas song is so huge.”
Evans shared that although Love hasn’t spoken to Carey personally since the online discussion about who holds the title of “Christmas Queen” began, Love is thrilled by the praise.
Love performed the classic holiday tune for many years on the “Late Show with David Letterman,” who said her annual performance was her favorite part of Christmas and even dubbed her the “Christmas Queen.”
She also sang for U2’s 1987 remake of the song.
