Durham Police investigating after woman found with head trauma in Ajax
Police are investigating a mysterious incident that occurred in Ajax, Ontario on Wednesday morning.
A woman was found at a major intersection with serious head injuries, but police are still investigating how she was injured.
Const. Nick Gluckstein of Durham Regional Police said officers responded after receiving reports of a person lying in the roadway, allegedly in distress.
“Police arrived on scene along with firefighters and emergency medical services,” Gluckstein said.
“They located a woman in her 50s lying in the road suffering from severe head trauma.”
The incident happened at Harwood Avenue South and Kingston Road. Officers arrived at the intersection around 5 a.m., but many questions remain about how and when she got there.
“We don’t know at this time if it was a motor vehicle collision,” Gluckstein said. “Whether or not it was a pedestrian or if it was a woman who was a*saulted and left in the area, that’s what we’re looking at.”
The victim was transported to a Toronto hospital in critical condition. Investigators from various units remained on scene for hours trying to determine how she was injured.
“We had our collision investigation unit do a full a**lysis of the roadway,” Gluckstein said.
“They have completed their investigation. And we also have our criminal investigation department on site.
But one thing the police do know is that this woman was hurt by someone.
“Obviously there are other people involved. This female didn’t do this to herself,” Gluckstein said. “So we are looking into who might have information about how this happened or who might have done this to this woman.”
Police have been scouring the area for videos or tips that could help them create a timeline of what happened.
They are asking anyone who saw anything suspicious at this time to contact them.
