Chicago, Illinois: MGM+’s latest thriller series ‘Emperor of Ocean Park’ has introduced enough suspense to keep us hooked for the next episode.
It opens with a young woman lying dead on the floor of Judge Oliver Garland (Forest Whitaker) in his office.
The news comes as a shock to her three grown children – Addison (Henry Simmons), Maria (Tiffany Mack) and Talcott (Grantham Coleman), who gather for the funeral, interrupted by the arrival of an unexpected guest.

As Talcott mourns his father’s death at the funeral at the end of the episode, he is greeted by an old man named Jack Ziegler (Tori Hanson).
Jack is introduced as a former CIA operative who has now made headlines for his dirty business. The episode highlights that Jack is accused of money laundering, illegal arms sales and contract killing.
He is also known to have built himself a million dollar fortune using US government secrets.
Judge Garland and Jack were college friends before choosing different careers. Still, they probably stayed in touch. When Jack gets involved in illegal business, people start doubting the judge’s integrity as well.

At the funeral, Jack asks about the “arrangement” which Talcott says he doesn’t know. Jack points out that Judge Garland arranged for her untimely death, and now that she’s dead, Talcott must know about it.
Jack points out that many others will ask him the same thing, but if he doesn’t want to hurt his family, he should inform him first.
At this point, both Talcott and the audience are unaware of the arrangement Jack is talking about. It’s a mystery that could also explain whether the judge was murdered, as Maria suspected.
