Chicago, Illinois: ‘Emperor of Ocean Park’, a mystery series, debuted on MGM+ on Sunday, July 14, 2024, enthralling audiences with its thrilling narrative centered on themes of politics, power and racism.

It stars Grantham Coleman as Talcott Garland, a law professor grieving the death of his father, Judge Oliver Garland (Forest Whittaker), who embarks on a journey to uncover the truth.

Episode 1 introduces a gray character named Jack Ziegler (Tori Hanson), whose influence on Judge Garland’s life remains a mystery.

Who is Jack Ziegler in ‘Emperor of Ocean Park’?

Jack Ziegler, who is about the same age as Judge Garland. Episode 1 suggests that their connection goes back to their college days when they were not only close friends but also roommates.

While Garland pursued a career in law, Jack pursued a path as a CIA operative.

Contemporary news reports suggest that Jack used his position and wealth for personal gain, allegedly involving himself in activities such as money laundering, contract killing, and the illegal sale of firearms.

He is also accused of using government secrets to make his own fortune.

However, Jack is not found guilty of any of these alleged crimes, as we see him attending Judge Garland’s funeral at the end of episode 1.

Maria (Tiffany Mack) is convinced that her father did not die of a heart attack. When she receives a call from Jack shortly after Garland’s death, she begins to suspect that he may be somehow involved.

He confides in his brother Talcott and expresses his concern. To support his theory, he even presents an old newspaper clipping that mentions that the CIA has developed a heart attack machine.

At this point, Maria only suspects Jack. However, the solution to the mystery is far from over, as this is only the beginning of the suspense. The series will consist of ten episodes that will follow Talcott and Maria’s journey as the truth unfolds.

Jack may seem like an easy suspect for now but he may not be the killer of Judge Garland. The judge was probably involved in some secret arrangement.

Jack doesn’t know the details yet, but whatever the judge was involved in must benefit him in some way.

Her death only adds chaos to Jack’s life as we see him restless and curious about the system.

As the season progresses, we hope to discover other parties who may benefit from Judge Garland’s death.
