summary
- Kobi Mainu earns his first England call-up.
- Erik ten Haag gave Kobi Mainu an indirect warning.
Kobbie Mainoo had his breakthrough season in 2023/24. As well as becoming a regular starter for his club, Manchester United, the 18-year-old also earned his first England call-up in March 2024.
The Englishman has shown incredible sk**ls on the ball and is expected to lead his nation in the next few years. One of the hottest prospects in the soccer community, Kobi Mainu, has been garnering a lot of praise lately.
A great story ❤️

However, his coach at club level, Erik ten Haag, seems rather worried about Mainu’s rise in the football world. The Dutch tactician has even expressed his willingness to rule out the 18-year-old if necessary.
Erik ten Haag discusses the hype around Mainu
It should be considered that the Englishman is still very young and does not possess the necessary sk**ls to deal with fame. Kobi Mainu’s career will surely suffer if he starts enjoying money and fame over football.
Manchester United will also be very disappointed that they have found a gem after so long. So, it shouldn’t surprise anyone if United coach Kobi Mainu is worried.
And that’s exactly how Erik ten Haag feels about the Englishman lately. He admits that so far Mainu has been a great professional, there have been no problems. But considering his young age, the club needs to pay him some special attention.
Erik ten Haag had this to say about Kobi Mainu, “Hype around Mainu? So far, Kobe handles it very well.” “If he crosses the line, of course I as a manager, we as a coach will intervene. But so far it’s not necessary because he wants to play football, he’s a great guy”.

The 54-year-old will surely be worried about Kobi Mainu’s career, as he faces Jadon Sancho. The United player, on loan at Borussia Dortmund, was expected to do great things but had a falling out with the coach before being sent to Germany.
The former AFC Ajax manager certainly does not expect a repeat of the case with Mainu and he has even offered to hire his entire coaching staff to help his career. It seems that both Manchester United and Erik ten Hag are very excited to make Kobi Mainu the club’s next superstar.
Anton Ferdinand welcomes Kobi Mainu’s talent
While Manchester United’s men still want the player to stay under the radar, the Englishman seems overly excited about the 18-year-old. Some of them are impressed with how Kobi Mainu made the jump from youth to senior soccer so easily.
Anton Ferdinand, former soccer player and Rio Ferdinand’s brother, may have gone a little too far with his praise for Mainu. And in doing so, he may have upset Arsenal fans.
Former West Ham player Kobi called Mainu ‘A generation and an incredible talent’ After making his debut for England. he said “Kobe Mainu is an incredible talent. A generational talent, 100 per cent. Not just because of him, but the way he is on the pitch. The 18-year-old’s maturity in dealing with senior soccer has particularly impressed Anton.
Anton Ferdinand: “Kobi Mainu is an incredible talent. A generational talent, 100 percent,” Ferdinand said. “Not just because of him, but the way he is on the pitch.

However, Anton Ferdinand also indirectly slandered Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka while praising Mainu. He believes the Manchester United player has had a much brighter start to his senior career than Saka.
Anton said, “People talk about Saka. Saka is not doing it in my opinion. He did not do this at the age of 18. This is true. What is he doing?” It’s probably the media attention that Erik ten Haag doesn’t want Kobi Mainu to receive. The English media praises its homegrown players too much, which has negatively affected the players.
History is littered with several players who failed after being initially hyped by the media. So it makes sense for Kobi Mainu to focus on his game for now and ignore the ma*sive media coverage about him.
