Rep. George Santos, the chronically lying Long Island Republican who fabricated much of his biography, claimed in a newly unearthed podcast interview that he survived an “assassination attempt” — and went his separate ways. had his shoes stolen during an assault in the middle of Fifth Avenue.
The notorious fabulist made a series of wild claims during a virtual encounter with a Brazilian podcast in December, which was translated from Portuguese by MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” and aired on Monday.
“We have already had an attempt on my life, an assassination attempt, a threatening letter, the need to have the police, a police escort standing outside our house,” said Santos, who was previously known as Anthony Devolder. and was featured on the show as George Santos-Devolder.
The freshman congressman, who is of Brazilian descent – but previously claimed he was “Jewish” and descended from Holocaust survivors – alleged he had been the victim of several crimes over the years , including the “attempted assassination”.
He also said that when he and his husband returned home from a New Year’s Eve party in 2021, they found their Florida home had been vandalized in what he described as a politically motivated attack.
“It was vandalized because we were in a Republican party,” he said.
Later in the interview, Santos recounted how one afternoon in the summer of 2021 he was assaulted by two men in the middle of Fifth Avenue in New York City.
“Before I asked, they (the thieves) weren’t black, they were even white, but they robbed me, took my briefcase, took my shoes and my watch,” Santos said on the podcast. “And it was broad daylight. It was 3 p.m., I was leaving my office, going to the garage, picking up my car and I was assaulted.
Keeping track of all the lies of New York Rep. George Santos
Santos went on to say that the worst part about the robbery was that “nobody did anything.”
“The fear is real,” he added. “It’s surreal what we’re going through here.”
Maddow said on Monday night’s show that the hosts of the Brazilian podcast then asked Santos – aka Devolder – for a copy of a police report documenting his alleged theft, but did not receive a response.
Since flipping a Democratic-held seat in November, Santos has been mired in a seemingly ever-growing web of lies, scandals and investigations running the gamut from his murky finances to his equally dodgy resume and to his confusing ancestry.
The newly sworn Republican congressman was found to have fabricated his college education at Baruch College and NYU, his work history at top Wall Street companies, his family heritage and even the circumstances of his mother’s death, which , according to him, were linked to the September 11 attacks.
Santos was caught in another lie last week, when it emerged he had performed as a ‘drag queen’ named Kitara Ravache in Brazil in 2008, despite his repeated denials about it.
After a photo of Santos in a sparkly red dress and wig was shared by a former friend from Brazil, Santos, who is openly gay, finally admitted to trying his hand at cross-dressing – but insisted that he wasn’t a drag queen and he was just having fun at a festival.
Despite mounting calls from Democrats and Republicans demanding Santos’ resignation over his endless litany of lies, the freshman lawmaker adamantly refused to step down – and instead won seats on two House committees.
