Gwen Stefani reunites with No Doubt for nostalgic Coachella set: “It’s been an amazing 9 years!”
Gwen Stefani was feeling “good” this weekend.
The singer officially reunited with her band, No Doubt, on Saturday night during day two of the 2024 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California.
“It has been nine years of the King!” the First Lady shouted onstage, where she was joined by ba*sist Tony Ka**le, guitarist Tom Dumont and drummer Adrian Young for the first time in nearly a decade. “I was thinking we should dust off some old stuff.”
The band stayed true to that feeling throughout the duration of their 80-minute set, delivering a nostalgic show that fans described as “absolutely exceptional,” “so creative,” and “one of the best shows of the year” on social media.
“Damn! #NoDoubt took me back,” one person tweeted via
Paying homage to their signature ’90s rock style, No Doubt took the stage in plaid sets. Stefani’s look consisted of a crop top, matching zip-up bra and pants over black fishnet stockings, complete with her famous sleek-back bun and deep red lipstick.
The band performed songs like “Hella Good,” “It’s My Life,” “Underneath It All,” “Sunday Morning,” and “Don’t Speak,” as Stefani kept the ma*sive crowd entertained with her high-energy onstage antics.
At one point, No Doubt was joined by surprise guest Olivia Rodrigo — chic in an “I ❤️ ND” T-shirt — to perform “Bathwater,” followed by 54-year-old Stefani effortlessly doing push-ups just moments before. “Just a Girl” belts.
The band closed their set with “Spiderwebs” (a cla*sic song from their 1995 album “Tragic Kingdom”), which received a standing ovation from festival-goers in the Southern California desert.
Ahead of No Doubt’s Coachella reunion, Stefani announced earlier this month that she and her bandmates were planning to “do something cohesive and nostalgic” with their onstage appearance.
“I feel like wearing plaid has always been there and is the band’s signature. I sent some references to the band, and we thought this would be a great way to have something similar but with our own individual styles at the same time,” the GXVE Beauty founder told Us Weekly.
“Part of me wants to do blue eyeliner, which I’ve never done on stage at No Doubt, but the other part of me thinks I might not want to do that with red lips. I have the red lipstick formula, the original recipe, which I always wear it on stage. I do my own makeup for every show.
No Doubt’s 2024 Coachella performance marked their first meeting in nearly a decade. The band, which was formed in Anaheim, California, in 1986, reunited again in 2012 to release their sixth studio album, “Push and Shove,” and played two shows in 2015 before focusing on solo projects.
As for what’s next for No Doubt? Stefani told Nylon earlier this month that although she’s “open to anything,” the band has no specific plans to return to the studio after Coachella. She also admitted that in the lead-up to the party, they weren’t in constant contact and didn’t “hang out or do anything” together.
“[Coachella is] It would be a really nice bow to the relationship, because we were kids [when we met]She explained. “I already know what it’s going to feel like because we’re completely in sync when we’re on stage. It’ll feel like you’re riding a bike again. We’ll laugh, and we’ll look at each other and say, ‘Oh my God – there you are.’
Elsewhere in the cover story, Stefani admitted she regrets the amount of time she spent with the band after welcoming her three children – Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10 – with ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. She and the Bush singer began dating in 1995 (following Stefani’s years-long romance with bandmate Ka**l) and were married from 2002 to 2016.
“I was like, ‘Oh my God… I didn’t have dinner with my family,’ And “I didn’t write a song,” explained Stefani, who married country singer Blake Shelton in 2021. “I wasted a whole day of my life trying to be in the No Doubt zone again.”
However, Stefani confirmed that she is not ready to give up on her musical endeavors after the success of her solo projects such as “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” (2004), “Beautiful Escape (2006)” and “This Is What the Truth Feels Like” (2016).
“It’s like a drug. I mean, if I’m on drugs and they’re really cool or something, I don’t do it. But I say, ‘You want it so bad, you can’t stop once you know that feeling,'” the three-time Grammy winner said of the process. Writing songs.
“I almost feel guilty about it, or like I have to justify it or feel bad that I’m doing it. Like, ‘You should get on with your life.’ But I really still want to do it! I want to live my purpose…and I still want to contribute.”
No Doubt will also perform during the second weekend of Coachella, which runs from Friday, April 19 to Sunday, April 21 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Other bands and artists in this year’s stacked lineup include Deftones, Lana Del Rey, Tyler The Creator, Doja Cat, J Balvin, Ice Spice and Blur.
