Lord Corlys Velarion (Steve Toussaint) is mourning the loss of his wife and currently blames Rhaenyra for Rhaenys’ death.

Having been humiliated by the Targaryens and King’s Landing in the past, Lord Corlys Velarion has no affection for blacks or greens. Even so, given their history, he’d back Rainaira over the hightower any day.

The queens send Baella Targaryen (Bethany Antonia) to convince her grandfather to take on the role of Hand of the Queen, and she convinces the Tide Lord perfectly with her reasoning.

Bella has emerged as an important figure for the Blacks, and Corliss sees him as a potential successor to Driftmark.

However, Bella identifies more with ‘blood and fire’ than ‘salt and sea’. He prefers to ride his dragon to navigate the seas, emphasizing his Targaryen heritage over his Velaryon lineage.

For Corliss, taking on the role of Hand of the Queen presents an opportunity to seek justice for his wife’s death and gives him a new sense of purpose to move forward in life.

Rainaira is eager to find a man of Corliss’ stature and respectability to effectively lead his council.

Lord Corliss, as Lord of the Tides, is famous for his victories at sea, making him the foremost naval commander.

According to ‘Fire and Blood’, once he assumed the role of Hand of the King, Lord Corlys planned an attack on King’s Landing with Jaceris Velarion (Harry Collett) and Rhaegar Targaryen.

He had already set up a blockade at Gullet, effectively cutting off supplies to King’s Landing. His leading role in the city’s eventual fall would secure the throne for Rainer.

However, the siege at Gullet is broken by Triarchy and Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), who return to fight in support of the Greens.

The coming battle is expected to be one of the deadliest in the history of the Seven Kingdoms, costing thousands of lives, including Jaseris and his dragon Vermax. Despite this loss, Corliss is ready to lead the Blacks to victory.
