‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Episode 7: Why Rhaenyra’s Trap Was a Risky Move for Aemond
Contains spoilers for ‘House of the Dragon’
Los Angeles, California: ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Episode 7 aired on HBO on July 28, and it turned out to be one of the most interesting episodes of the show with the final image of Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy). And his army of dragons is waiting to pounce on Emond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and Vagar.
Amond has become a major thorn in the side of the Blacks and is single-handedly responsible for the deaths of Lucarius Velarion (Elliot Grihalt) and Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best).
The biggest reason why Amond is so dangerous is because he owns the biggest dragon dragon in the Seven Kingdoms. So far, blacks have not been able to do any offense against Vagar but that seems to have changed now that dragons like Vermithor and Silverwing can give Vagar competition.

Encouraged by his new dragon, Rhaenar plans a daring move to trap Vagar while Wolf (Tom Bennett) flies to King’s Landing on his newly claimed dragon Silverwing.
When Amond follows him to Dragonstone, he is greeted with the horrifying image of Rhaenyra standing before her dragons. Emond returns in time to save himself and Vagar from the trap.
Earlier in the episode, Hugh (Kieran Bew) claimed Vermithor who is the second largest dragon after Vhagar and Ulf claimed Silverwing. Adam of Hull (Clinton Liberty) had previously been the rider of Seismok who had chosen him.
With Syrax, Vermax, and Moondancer already at her disposal, Rhaenyra fancies her chances against Vhagar though, this may be a reckless move that could backfire.
Vagar is a battle-tested dragon that can dominate other dragons

The difference between Vagar and other dragons is the amount of time they spend fighting. Vermithor and Silverwing have experience but have been inactive for a long time.
Also, their riders Wolf and Hugh are inexperienced and their High Valerians are not even fluent in the language used to communicate with dragons. Amond escaped because he was probably taken by surprise but defeating Vagar was a challenge for all the dragons as well.
Vagar is the only dragon to survive Aegon’s conquest and is so large that he cannot be kept in the dragon pit like the other dragons. We see Aemond riding into an open field to mount Vagar.
Furthermore, Vagar must have been confident of fighting the dragons and it was Amond who was holding back. Blacks may have numbers but Vagar certainly remains a formidable opponent for them.
So, the move to trap Vagar could spell disaster for the dragons and their riders. In ‘Fire and Blood’, the only dragon that can match Vagar’s power is Caraxes, and this can also be attributed to the Daemon Targaryen’s (Matt Smith) battle experience with Caraxes.
