Jennifer Lopez pays tribute to Selena 25 years after playing her
Jennifer Lopez remembers one of the big names in music this holiday season.
The 53-year-old actress, who played Selena Quintanilla on the big screen 25 years ago, stepped out for some family shopping yesterday in a gray graphic t-shirt featuring the late singer.
Dressed in floral pants and gray boots as well as oversized aviator sunglasses, Ben Affleck’s new wife rocked her vintage-style T-shirt as she browsed the aisles of a Cost Plus World Market store with her 14-year-old child, Emme, as well as her sister, Lynda Lopez, and her niece Lucie.
Perhaps the outfit was something she unboxed as the outing came just hours after a Christmas newsletter was published revealing that the star’s sister had given her some Selena merch.
In the latest issue of “On The JLo,” the “Marry Me” star shared some of her favorite gifts to give and receive, including the musical shirts Selena’s family got her for Christmas.
“Suzette and the family sent me an amazing Selena gift box this week and I loved it!!!” she wrote. “I immediately wore this Selena shirt to Christmas shopping. If you like rock and roll t-shirts…these t-shirts are a super cool gift. Selena was such a big part of my life, so you will definitely see me rocking them in the new year!!!Thank you Q family!!!”
In the newsletter, the “Let’s Get Loud” singer showed off another Selena t-shirt with a floral design.
The gift was certainly significant; the singer paid tribute to the film’s 25th anniversary earlier this year, recalling special memories of playing Selena, who was murdered by Yolanda Saldívar, her fan club president at the age of 23.
“This movie means so much to me…Selena and her family mean so much to me, and I was so lucky to be cast as her,” she wrote on Instagram.
What else got Lopez’s stamp of approval this year?
With Smooth + Seduce Contouring Body Cream ($60) and Tighten + Tease Resurfacing Body Serum ($60) from her own brand JLo Beauty, the “Jenny from the Block” singer sang the cover’s praises Hermès Avalon ($1,625) which is also beloved by Meghan Markle.
“I find them classy and a throwback to the Bronx at the same time,” she said, remembering the “very irritating blanket” she loved growing up.
In addition to the designer blankets, she also says she’s a fan of Le Labo candles (it’s said she orders 50 a month) writing, “This year I gave away this discovery set of Le Labo candles ($67) to a few people around me. I am absolutely obsessed with their Santal 26 scented candle.”
