Kelly Clarkson: her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock told me I wasn’t “s*xy” enough to participate in “The Voice”

She won’t forget “A Moment Like This.”

Kelly Clarkson claims her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, once told her she wasn’t “hot” enough to be a coach on “The Voice.”

The “American Idol” alum, 41, said in court documents obtained Tuesday by The Post that she had told the talent manager, 47, for years that she wanted to star on the show. NBC singing competition show, but he informed her that network executives were “looking for a more s*x symbol guy.”

Blackstock also reportedly told Clarkson that NBC wanted “someone hot” like Rihanna rather than his then-wife.

Last year, the “Kelly Clarkson Show” host made an explosive statement to a California labor commissioner, who ultimately ordered Blackstock to pay Clarkson $2.6 million for illegally obtaining contracts that should have been dealt with by its agents.

Despite her then-husband’s alleged comments, Clarkson was named coach on season 14 of “The Voice” in 2018.

The “Since U Been Gone” singer also told the labor commissioner that Blackstock allegedly said NBC “had to have someone black” and that she was “too similar” to another of his clients, Blake Shelton, who was already a coach. on the series.

When Clarkson’s lawyer, Ed McPherson, asked how she was able to remember the conversation, the pop star replied, “Well, a woman doesn’t forget once she’s told she doesn’t he’s not a s*x symbol, so it stays. »

Blackstock apparently told NBC executives in 2017 that they would have to sign Clarkson for “The Voice” or she would join their rival show, “American Idol.”

He claimed that year that two music agents from Creative Artists Agency advised him to put pressure on NBC by telling top bra*s that Clarkson was already in talks with ABC to become a judge on the show that launched his career in 2002 .

Blackstock allegedly blocked Clarkson’s CAA agents from joining negotiation conversations with NBC, and she didn’t even know a deal was on the table for “The Voice” until he received an offer.

Clarkson told the court that Blackstock “mentioned that he had received ‘The Voice’ for her on several occasions” and “he was proud of it.” She also testified that she was initially unaware that CAA was only receiving 5 percent instead of the standard 10 percent agent commission because Blackstock allegedly took the rest of the money for itself.

“To be fair to Mr. Blackstock, I stayed out of the financial part,” Clarkson said. “I never participated in business conversations. I have always been part of creation. But no, this is the first time I’ve heard of this.

His lawyer said there was no evidence that CAA agents were present during the negotiations and that Blackstock negotiated the deal “illegally” because he was not a licensed agent.

“Mr. Blackstock’s story, particularly as it relates to ‘The Voice,’ changed several times during the week of the hearing, sometimes because concrete evidence to the contrary was shown, and other times for no apparent reason,” McPherson said in court documents.

“If there is one theme throughout this case, it is that Brandon Blackstock is not a credible witness on almost any issue. »

California’s labor commissioner agreed and ruled in November that Blackstock overcharged Clarkson $2,641,374 when he booked her “The Voice” contract as well as her television appearances for Norwegian Cruise Lines, Wayfair and the Billboard Music Awards .

Blackstock, who has since appealed the decision, has not publicly responded to Clarkson’s claims.

The exes went through a tumultuous divorce, which began in June 2020 after almost seven years of marriage.

They settled the case in March 2022 after a contentious custody battle over their two children — River Rose, 9, and Remington Alexander, 7 — as well as ownership of their Montana ranch.
