Kevin Spacey replaced by ‘RRR’ star Ray Stevenson in ‘comeback’ movie

Kevin Spacey got the hook – again – to be hung in the UK courts.

The beleaguered actor, 63, has been replaced by ‘Thor’ and ‘RRR’ actor Ray Stevenson in the upcoming ‘1242: Gateway to the West’ film, Deadline reported, as Spacey faces new charges of sexual assault.

The film was briefly expected to be the return of the Oscar-winning actor after his recent victory in Manhattan federal court against actor Anthony Rapp.

“What an incredible honor to welcome Ray Stevenson, a globally acclaimed actor with an impressive range and undeniable charisma,” producer Bill Chamberlain said in a statement.

“1242: Gateway to the West” tells the story of a spiritual man (played by Jeremy Neumark Jones) and his attempt to confront the Great Mongol Army, led by Batu Khan, the grandson of the fearsome Ghengis Khan. Instead of Spacey, Stevenson would play papal legate Cesareane, a Mongol spy who acts as a go-between.

The 58-year-old actor appeared as the villain in “RRR,” which was nominated for Best Original Song at the 2023 Oscars.

“Ray is the perfect lead role for our film ‘1242: Gateway to the West’; his captivating performances in movies like “RRR” prove it beyond a doubt! We are honored to have him join us,” said the film’s other producer, Kornél Sipos. “Together we will create something truly remarkable.”

On the heels of his shock defense against Rapp, 51 – in which he prevailed – Spacey was soon hit with seven more sexual assault charges in the UK, which allegedly occurred from 2001 to 2004.

According to prosecutors, the new charges include three counts of indecent assault and sexual assault and one count of inciting a person to engage in sexual activity without their consent. The “American Beauty” actor has pleaded not guilty.

The ‘House of Cards’ actor has been honored by Italy’s National Cinema Museum with a lifetime achievement award. In the actor’s first engagement since his legal battles began, Spacey thanked the film’s organization for having “the balls” to invite him over.

“1242: Gateway to the West” will be screened at the European Film Market in Berlin.
