King Charles III to undergo surgery for enlarged prostate while Kate Middleton is hospitalized

King Charles III is the second member of the British royal family to undergo a medical procedure this month.

Buckingham Palace announced on Wednesday that His Royal Highness, 75, had “sought treatment for an enlarged prostate”.

“His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will be hospitalized next week for a corrective procedure,” the statement added.

The palace also notes that an enlarged prostate is “common in thousands of men each year”, apparently to avoid raising serious concerns about Charles’ condition.

According to medical experts, an enlarged prostate – or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) – affects around 80% of men over the age of 70.

Some of the reported problems it can cause include “increased urinary frequency, urgency, and inability to completely empty the bladder.”

News of Charles’ health problems comes hours after news that Kate Middleton underwent “planned abdominal surgery.”

“The operation was successful and she is expected to remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” read a statement on behalf of the Princess of Wales.

Middleton, 42, encouraged people to “maintain as much normalcy as possible for your children,” noting that she is aware that this statement will generate a lot of “interest.”

She added that she would like to keep her medical information “private”, apparently to avoid any leaks.

Middleton has shown no indication that she has any health problems. Earlier this month, she reportedly celebrated a “low-key” and relaxed birthday at home.

Charles, for his part, was on the move as recently as last Sunday.

The King’s Instagram shared a photo of him heading to church service at Crathie Kirk on the Balmoral Estate in Scotland with his wife Queen Camilla.

Although Charles was crowned king in May 2023 at a much older age than his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II, he had shown no serious signs of health problems – apart from his viral ‘sausage fingers’.

The father-of-two’s swollen fingers could be due to fluid retention, arthritis or an allergic reaction, but a doctor says there is no cause for alarm.

Dr Gareth Nye previously told the Daily Star: “There is no immediate health problem to be attributed to swollen fingers and it is most likely a sign of his age. »
