Lauryn Hill was a ‘last minute’ surprise for Soho House birthday
Lauryn Hill seemed determined to appear somewhere during New York Fashion Week — but there were some last-minute changes to her schedule, Page Six has learned.
The 90s hip hop icon was listed as a performer at a fashion event this week, but in a rather inelegant move, mysteriously removed just days before, we hear.
Turns out maybe she just got a better offer?
The “Ready or Not” singer appeared as a surprise performer at Soho House’s 20th anniversary, shocking delighted partygoers as she took the stage in front of the rooftop pool on Tuesday.
We learn that the performance was organized at the last minute, the exclusive spot confirming it just a few days before the party.
Hill’s representatives, however, explained that the other event “announced the show before production and other details were finalized or a deal was signed.” So, Ms. Hill was never confirmed to be part of the event. His agents were in talks with the organizers but nothing came to fruition.
Hill, who is famous for taking the stage late, was just about on time, only 15 minutes late from his scheduled start, we hear.
Hill – who will reunite with the Fugees for a highly anticipated tour for her 25th anniversary album “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” in October – put a small fan at her feet to help combat the sweltering 80-degree heat and performed the show in a sleek, chunky mirrored blazer.
She performed hits like “Killing Me Softly” and “Doo Wop (That Thing)” to an excited crowd, but no one seemed more excited than the staff.
“I love my job,” one worker was heard saying as they danced. “I can’t believe I’m getting paid to watch Lauryn Hill!”
Soho House, originally from London, has clubs all over the world.
Madonna, Miley Cryus, Tom Cruise, Kim Kardashian, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Leonardo DiCaprio, Nicole Kidman and more stars have all been spotted at the hotspot which costs $2,667 a year.
Just this week, Megan PKB and Machine Gun Kelly were photographed after eating at the hotel.
Birthday party guests received invitations in the form of a membership card for “Annabelle Bronstein” – the alias Kim Cattrall’s character Samantha Jones gave to sneak into an episode of the season 6 of “Sex and the City”.
The name also appeared during Cattrall’s recent appearance on the HBO spin-off “And Just Like That.”
