Legendary rocker reveals he suffered stroke, lost control of his arm: ‘I don’t want sympathy’
Legendary Queen guitarist Brian May has revealed he suffered a stroke last week which left him temporarily unable to use his left arm.
The “Don’t Stop Me Now” singer, 77, took to social media Wednesday morning to share the news with his fans, saying there were doubts he would be able to play guitar again after his “minor health hiccups.”
“I’m here to bring you some good news – the good news is that I can play the guitar after the events of the last few days,” May said in an Instagram video while snapping her fingers.
“I’m saying this because it was a little bit in doubt because the little health hiccup I mentioned happened about a week ago and what they said was a minor stroke. It was a little scary, I have to say.”
May said she lost control of her hand “out of the blue” during the health scare.
He praised the doctors for their “fantastic care,” adding, “I didn’t want to say anything at the time because I didn’t want anything around, you know. I didn’t really want sympathy.”
“Please don’t because it will clutter my inbox and I hate it,” he quipped. “The good news is I’m fine. Doing what I’m told, which is basically nothing. I’m grounded.”
May appeared in good spirits in the clip, adding that she wasn’t allowed to drive or get on planes because it could raise her heart rate.
“I am not allowed to fly the plane, which will stress me out,” he said. “But I’m fine.”
The Post has reached out to May’s representatives for further comment.
The guitarist has had health struggles in the past, including a “very near death” heart attack in 2020.
Doctors discovered that May had three blocked arteries and Rocker was fitted for three stents, which help keep the artery open.
“It’s a long climb back,” he told The Times back. “I’ve had complications from the drugs I’m taking, one of which was a stomach explosion that almost k**led me.”
“I don’t drink, I don’t smoke, I don’t have high cholesterol and I was exercising through the tour, so why did this happen?” She said, share her confusion about health scares. “At least I now have a heart that’s working better than ever.”
May hasn’t been on the road since February, when he and Queen played a five-date tour across Japan.
The band concluded the tour on February 14.
