Local Brewery Celebrates Nearly 40 Years in Guelph
Wellington Brewery is celebrating its 38th anniversary in Guelph this weekend.
Starting Friday, the local brewing company will hold its 38th annual Welly Cask Festival.
The two-day festival honors the company’s history as Ontario’s first independent craft brewery.
In a press release, Brad McInerney, Marketing Director of Wellington Brewery, said the festival was an opportunity to sample well-made local craft beer alongside live local music.
Each of the beers will be served straight from the barrel, which goes back to the company’s roots as one of the first modern craft brewers in North America to revive traditional barrel-conditioned beer.
The event will feature over 30 beers and ciders on tap, food and the popular Craft Beer Queen Olympics. Participants will compete in several competitions, including drum rolling and boot throwing.
Additionally, there will be live performances from the Flamingos and the Boo Radley Project Live Karaoke as well as a House of Kameleon drag show.
The festival will also raise funds to support the Sanguen health center.
