summary
- Luka Doncic was able to lead the Mavericks to an impressive Game 2 win over OKC.
- An OKC fan spoke out against Doncic’s family mid-game and the 5x All-Star didn’t appreciate it.
Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks bounced back with a dominant win over the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Paycom Center. After going through an awkward shooting slump, Doncic managed to finish the game with 29 points, 10 rebounds and 7 a*sists. He also shot 5-8 from deep, his best from three-point range in five games.
Unfortunately, Kyrie Irving was unable to score just 9 points in the entire game. However, the Mavericks pressed PJ Washington to carry the offense with Doncic as he finished with 29 points. At the end of the game, Doncic was confronted by a fan near the sideline who had some choice words for the 5x All-Star. During that time, the Mavericks were also up nine points.
Luka Doncic did not retaliate against the chirping OKC fan
In such situations, it is important for players to maintain composure. Luka Doncic reveals that OKC fan spoke out against his family. “It’s been great for me, I love it. Just [that] There was a guy going courtside in my family. I don’t like that guy. You’re a grown man, you can’t do that, you know. But I didn’t do anything I just went back. But it’s crazy. It’s a grown man coming into my family. It’s kind of nuts,” He said this at the press conference.
Doncic doesn’t usually back down against such situations but this was an instance where he had to be desperate to handle things calmly. Things can get pretty heated during the playoffs, and Doncic would have gotten himself into trouble if things escalated. It was tough to handle as the Mavericks played on OKC’s home turf.
Kyrie Irving saw a fan taunting him as he made a free throw
Luka Doncic wasn’t the only one who had to deal with hecklers on the sidelines. Not long after Doncic’s exchange with an OKC fan, Kyrie Irving went back to shooting a free throw with less than 30 seconds left on the game clock. Irving was seen pointing his finger at the fan.
The Mavericks tied the series at 1-1 in Games 3 and 4, which will be held at the American Airlines Center. Dallas is 2-1 at home in the playoffs, and winning their next two games will be monumental for the team. In Game 2, we saw the Mavericks’ bench unit put up more numbers offensively. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 17 points. His presence in the third quarter also gave the Mavericks a double-digit lead.
