A New Jersey woman has been arrested for allegedly shooting her husband over Christmas, authorities said.
Marylue Wigglesworth, 51, is charged with shooting David Wigglesworth, 57, at their home in Mays Landing on Sunday night, the Atlantic County District Attorney’s Office confirmed.
Officers responded to the family residence in Somers Point Road at around 10.19pm where they found David Wigglesworth apparently suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Marylue Wigglesworth was arrested on suspicion of murder and remained at the Atlantic County Justice Center on Monday.
The Atlantic County District Attorney’s Office and the Hamilton Township Police Department did not immediately respond to request for comment on the investigation.
Before his death, David Wigglesworth – known as “Wiggy” to friends and family – was active in local politics. In 2019, he campaigned unsuccessfully as a Republican for the township committee, New Jersey 101.5 reported.
He also served on the planning board and volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Atlantic City.
David and Marylue Wigglesworth have an adult son, according to WPG Talk Radio. Photos on social media show the seemingly happy family posing in various locations, including a trip to Philadelphia earlier this year.
“I can’t believe it,” one local wrote of the tragedy on Facebook. “We’ve known Dave and Mary for years… That just can’t be true.”
