‘Ozark’, ‘Inventing Anna’ among favorite TV shows of 2022: poll

Recent setbacks aside, a new survey suggests that Netflix is still a major player in the TV world.

Two thousand Americans were asked this month to choose their favorites from a list of all the shows they watched in 2022.

In addition to earning the No. 1 pick with “Ozark” Season 4, Netflix accounted for half of the top 10 overall, as well as half of the best scripted series.

Where the streaming service might face more challenges is with new releases, as only three of its shows — “Wednesday,” “Mo” and “Inventing Anna” — appeared in the 2022 premieres. better ranked.

But of those, “Wednesday” seemed to captivate audiences the most. According to data from OnePoll, about a quarter of those who started the show ended up watching the whole thing, making it the second most finished series behind Showtime’s “Yellowjackets.”

Although Netflix does not reveal official viewership data for its content, the company was recently forced to disclose its biggest customer losses in nearly a decade, of around 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of the year. and 970,000 in the second quarter.

In October, however, it appears to have rebounded with 2.4 million new subscribers, perhaps bolstered by fan reactions to the “Ozark” finale in May and the conclusion of “Stranger Things” Season 4 in July.

Besides Netflix’s apparent return from obsolescence, the data also reveals some other interesting trends in this year’s television landscape.

Despite evidence that HBO’s ‘House of the Dragon’ beat Amazon Prime’s fantastic ‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ in weekly rankings, respondents were more likely to choose the latter series as their favorite .

And while critics praised Tony Gilroy’s “Andor” over the rest of Disney+’s 2022 offerings, respondents were generally more enamored with Marvel’s “She Hulk: Attorney At Law.”

One thing’s for sure: broadcast TV networks continue to flounder in the wake of so many cable and streaming providers — so much so that only ABC’s Emmy-winning sitcom “Abbott Elementary” stands out. among the new versions.
