Patrick Mahomes provides injury update with all eyes on ankle

Patrick Mahomes presents an aura of health.

The presumptive NFL MVP suffered a sprained ankle in the Chiefs’ 27-20 win over the Jaguars on Saturday. Nonetheless, the quarterback said Wednesday that all systems were ready for the AFC Championship Game – and left the press conference without a limp.

“It’s going well,” Mahomes told reporters of his ankle, according to ESPN. “I did a few days of treatment, a few days of rehabilitation. I can’t wait to get out on the training ground and test it out and see where I’m at. But it’s been good so far.

“I felt better than I thought after the game. Going over it during the game definitely hurt. But after the game I was able to rest and kind of freeze it and do different things like that. I feel felt a little better and obviously the next morning I felt a little better and then I continued to improve throughout the week, so we’ll see how I feel today in training.

He said he will keep pushing to see what his limits will be on Sunday.

“I’m going to have to find ways to be able to push and be able to throw the throws the right way,” he said. “I’m going to push a little today, then the next day, then again the next day and see what I can do next. Not to re-aggravate the injury, obviously, but to push to see what I can do on Sunday.
