‘Pharma Bro’ Martin Shkreli gives Sam Bankman-Fried tips for potential prison stint
Ex-“Pharma Bro” scammer Martin Shkreli offered some jailhouse wisdom to alleged crypto scammer Sam Bankman-Fried if he ends up going to jail: Shave your head and revise rap lyrics.
Shkreli, who served five years in federal prison after being convicted of securities fraud in 2017, said Bankman-Fried had to change his appearance if he was to survive his confinement.
To do this, Shkreli suggested the 30-year-old fallen crypto child prodigy shave off his wild hair and deepen his voice to fit in “the very testosterone-filled male place.”
“Sam is going to be in a lot of trouble because he’s a bit girlish and his behavior – some people say he has autistic sense or sensitivity – is not something that goes down well in prison.” Shkreli said in an interview with cryptocurrency journalist Laura Shin on Friday.
Bankman-Fried was released on $250 million bail pending trial on fraud charges. If convicted, he faces up to 115 years in prison.
“He should listen to as much rap music as possible… pick up these things as fast as he can,” Shkreli said on Shin’s “Unchained” podcast.
If Bankman-Fried prepares on topics like “criminal culture,” it could “save your life,” Shkreli added.
“Learn everything there is to know about the gangs, about the tough neighborhoods in each city,” he said.
Shkreli, who was released from prison in May, rose to fame after raising the price of life-saving AIDS treatment Daraprim to $750 a pill from $17.50 after securing exclusive rights to it in 2015.
