Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s popularity hinges on two things because A-list support is thin: experts
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s popularity may seem to be at an all-time low in the UK right now — but the pair have a shot at repairing their image, according to a prominent royal commentator.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sensationally turned their backs on the royal family after stepping down from royal life in 2020.
Since then, they have only returned to Harry’s home turf a few times.
But according to royal expert and commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, the pair have a good chance of increasing their popularity if they do two things in particular.
“A lot depends on how well Megan’s cooking program for Netflix and American Riviera Orchard, her lifestyle brand, does,” Fitzwilliams told The Mirror of the “Suits” alum’s new business venture.
“Meanwhile, it seems very unlikely that more awards will be forthcoming for Harry any time soon.”
Fitzwilliams added that the pair’s A-list list of friends “who openly support them” could play an important role in fixing their public image.
Still, some of the couple’s famous friends may be doing more harm than good to boost their popularity.
“Nacho Figueras is a friend of Harry’s, and will appear in Harry’s series on Polo on Netflix,” the royal expert said. “Yet it is an elite sport and unlikely to attract large numbers of spectators.”
“Of course, Harry has outstanding legal issues regarding security and the press that he wants to pursue in Britain but this is certainly not destined to be his main claim to fame in the future.”
In addition to Figueras and his model wife, Delphina Blequier, the pair also boast close friendships with tennis legend Serena Williams, reality star and “momager” Kris Jenner, Mindy Kaling, Tracee Ellis Ross, Ellen DeGeneres and more.
The pair developed several high-profile friendships after moving to Montecito, California four years ago.
At the same time, they launch a series of attacks on Harry’s estranged relatives, causing a major rift between them and the Windsor clan.
The pair went on to sign on for a series of projects on the dotted line, each of which revealed bombshell details about palace life.
After sitting down for an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the Sussexes went on to release their six-part Netflix documentary, as well as Harry’s protocol-shattering memoir, “Spare.”
And it was recently reported that Harry is considering publishing a follow-up book.
