Priscilla Presley says ‘it’s been a tough time’ in first post since Lisa Marie’s death
Priscilla Presley has opened up about the “difficult time” she and her loved ones faced following the sudden death of her only child, Lisa Marie Presley.
Lisa Marie, daughter of rock and roll legend Elvis Presley, died on January 12 after suffering cardiac arrest in her California home. She was 54 years old.
Taking to Twitter, Priscilla thanked fans for their unwavering support since news broke of her daughter’s death.
“Thank you all for your condolences, you touched me with your words”, she tweeted Monday night.
“It’s been a very difficult time, but just knowing your love is out there makes a difference.”
Her tweet came just hours after her moving speech at Lisa Marie’s memorial service at Graceland on Sunday.
Reading aloud to mourners, Priscilla’s lines began: “In 1968 she entered our world / Born weary, fragile, but strong / She was delicate but full of life.
“She always knew she wouldn’t stay here too long / Childhood passes with a glimpse of her green eye / Then she started her own family.”
The poem went on to refer to the death by suicide of Lisa Marie’s son, Benjamin, in 2020, saying, “Then came her second child leaving her with suspicion / Could it be the angel that takes me home?”
Lisa Marie shared daughter Riley, 33, and late son Benjamin, with Danny Keough. She was married to Keough from 1988 to 1994.
The late singer shared her 14-year-old twins Finley and Harper with ex-husband Michael Lockwood. The couple have been married for a decade after getting married in 2006.
On Sunday, Lisa Marie was laid to rest next to Benjamin in the meditation garden at the Tennessee estate of her late father Elvis Presley, which is now owned by Lisa Marie’s three daughters.
Austin Butler, Sarah Ferguson and Alanis Morissette also attended Lisa Marie’s service, among other A-listers.
