SAN ANTONIO — RJ Barrett’s lacerated right index finger will keep him out of the Knicks’ roster Thursday night against the Spurs and likely for at least a week, a source confirmed.
Barrett left Tuesday’s overtime loss to Dallas less than two minutes into the game with a bloody hand after interference from Mavericks star Luka Doncic. The source added that Barrett, who has appeared in every Knicks game this season, “could return sooner” than a week.
Jalen Brunson also hadn’t missed a game this season until he sat in Dallas against his former team with a sore hip, suffered against the 76ers on Sunday.
Barrett is averaging 19.7 points per game in 35 appearances, dipping below 20 points due to his two-minute scoreless stint against the Mavericks. Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau said after the game he didn’t know if Barrett received stitches, and the team had no availability Wednesday after flying to San Antonio.
While Barrett is expected to be sidelined against Spurs, the Knicks will be down to three players – Julius Randle, Immanuel Quickley and Isaiah Hartenstein – who haven’t missed a moment this season.
