Ryan Garcia’s physical difference in the Garvonta Davis and Devin Haney fight says it all
Ryan Garcia capped off an eventful evening with a great performance against Devin Haney. Despite all the odds, the fighter managed to prove everyone wrong and emerge victorious on the night. However, fans and many others couldn’t help but notice a clear difference in the fighter.
For those who don’t know, Ryan Garcia took on Devin Haney at the Barclays Center in New York this past weekend. Throughout the buildup, there was much talk about Garcia and his mental state due to some delusions and schizophrenic behavior on social media. However, as he proved on Saturday night, it was all a very elaborate hoax.
Throughout the fight, Ryan completely outcla*sed his opponent, holding on for dear life at times. Thus, despite the referee seemingly doing his best to keep Devin Haney in the fight, the WBC super lightweight champion was defeated 112-112, 114-110, 115-109. majority decision. Given that Garcia missed weight for the fight, it is hoped that the bout will be held again in the future.
Fans point out the difference in Ryan Garcia’s body against Devin Haney and Garvonta Davis
Coming into the fight, Devin Haney was a big favorite, not only because of questions about Ryan Garcia’s mental stability, but also because of his ability against the sport’s top dogs. Earlier, Garcia suffered his first career loss at the hands of Garvanta Davis last year. Thus, many took this as an indication of how Hani would behave against him as well.
On the night, it was anything but eventful as Ryan got a strong leg from the get-go, tagging Haney with a sharp left hook that left him stunned. Thereafter, he scored a total of three knockdowns in rounds 7, 10 and 11, with two more marked as ‘slips’ by the referee. In comparison, Garcia was knocked out in Round 2 and then in Round 7 against Gervanta Davis, not losing the count afterwards.

I say Ryan only lost because he was drained the longest.

All these people are saying that when Ryan Garcia fought Garvonta Davis it wasn’t his choice to move up or down in weight.
It’s not Tank’s fault that all the welterweights who k**l him chase him for a payday for the size advantage and he doesn’t blow them 20 pounds. pic.twitter.com/Wp5g142uOt

I wholeheartedly believe that Garvonta Davis would have beaten Ryan Garcia without the rehydration clause but that’s the problem with boxingโฆ
If you are so much better than that guy why do you need the clause?

Ryan Garcia should have a rematch with Jervanta Davis. He was mentally stable in the first fight. This unhinged version probably does a better job. # Hanigarcia pic.twitter.com/2ypXhuuxzT

As such, fans have pointed out the stark difference in his appearance for both fights. For the Haney fight, Ryan weighed in at 143 pounds, possibly coming in at 160 pounds on fight night. On the other hand, the rehydration clause means Garcia can only get up to 146 pounds for his catchweight bout against Davis. As a result, he was seriously debilitated and looked a husk of the man against Haney.
Not only that, they also had a lot to say about a future rematch with Tank. Although both fighters have fans making a case for them, the general consensus is that the fight should happen. However, considering Ryan and Oscar De La Hoya, it will be a tricky feat to pull off.
How will Ryan Garcia fare in a rematch against Garvonta Davis without a rehydration clause?
For the most part, Ryan Garcia’s loss against Garvanta Davis can’t be attributed solely to his weight loss or even a rehydration streak. On the night, Davis was the better boxer and landed punishing shots on Garcia. That said, if Ryan was a fuller version of himself like he was against Oscar Duarte or Devin Haney, he would have been able to put up a better fight.
That said, it’s very hard to say how a potential rematch between the two would play out. Either way, Ryan Garcia and Oscar De La Hoya have already given their thoughts on a rematch against ‘Tank’:
“I don’t think Tank is going to beat Frank Martin, but if he does, he’s not going to fight me, because I’m going up. I’m not going to 140, I’m going to 147, I can’t go to 140. I’m technically never at 140. I haven’t fought, I’ve fought at 143 every time, my body literally can’t go below 143, it’s impossible.”
Further, De La Hoya added: The only way he can fight Tank Davis is at catchweight, (1)45. Just like they did to him. Now he (Ryan) is the man, he is the face of boxing.
All things considered, a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Garvonta Davis would make for a blockbuster PPV. However, before that ‘KingRy’ will have his eyes on a rematch against Sebastian Fundora and Devin Haney. In between, Davis will have his hands full against Frank Martin.
