Sarah Evans reconciles with her husband, Jay Parker, after he tried to hit her with his car
Country singer Sarah Evans has revealed that she has reconciled with her husband, Jay Parker, after he was arrested for alleged a*sault.
The “Born To Fly” singer, 53, admitted during the first episode of her new podcast, “Diving in Deep with Sara Evans,” more than two years after she filed for divorce from the former footballer, 51.
“We’re very happy now, but I don’t want anyone to think I’m advocating staying in a relationship where you always, deep down, know you need to get out of the situation,” Evans said Thursday. “Every woman should follow her intuition on this matter and do what is best for her. I believe and hope I have done that.”
The “Pride” singer, who married the radio personality in 2008, initially filed for divorce in August 2021.
The following January, Parker was charged with felony aggravated a*sault with a deadly weapon after he allegedly tried to hit Evans’ car with his car.
He entered a “best interest” plea to a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment and served a year of probation, per the AP.
During the podcast, Evans detailed the alleged incident, revealing that she and Parker got into a verbal fight earlier in the day “because he wasn’t getting his way.”
That night, he bombarded her with text messages blaming her for ending their marriage while she was at a friend’s house with one of her daughters. Evans shares Audrey, 19, Olivia, 21, and Avery, 24, with ex-husband Craig Schelsky.
“A friend of ours was driving me [home]. We were preparing to pull out into the corridor, and [Barker] I fought with my child, who never saw this side of him. She explained that it scared her.
“Then he jumped in his truck, and he… [was] A very high-speed type of backup. I knew Jay, so I didn’t feel the same way my child did. My child thought he was going to drop our car, that he was backing toward our car, and that she was about to witness something terrible, or at least, an accident, which would cause him to crash his truck into my side of the car. “In the car, where I was in the front seat,” she said.
Her daughter called 911, but Parker had left the car by the time police arrived. When he returned home, he was arrested and spent a night in prison.
“I felt so ashamed and so stupid, and my child was so angry. But you know she was standing there thinking, ‘He’s about to hit my mom with a truck.’ I don’t know how close he was, honestly, and I don’t know what it’s like for her,” Evans continued. But I heard her screaming very loudly.”
“I didn’t really think he was trying to hit our car. I think he was trying to reverse as fast as he could to see who I was in the car with, and to see if I was with another guy. And my kid thought: ‘He’s going to run into them.’
The “Suds in the Bucket” singer said she reconnected with her husband a few months later when he texted her saying: “Everyone says I shouldn’t call you, but you’re still my wife.”
“A lot of women will judge me and want to judge me. When he said, ‘But you’re still my wife,’ I don’t know. I melted because I thought I was still your wife, and we could talk if we wanted to. We’re both adults,” Evans said, noting They were “turning toward each other.”
Elsewhere in the podcast, Evans said she hid Parker’s “abuse” from her children.
“I think I started to realize that we were being abused. We were using abuse in marriage. I didn’t want to admit it, and I don’t think he saw it that way,” she said, noting that Parker had “taken advantage” of the fact that she had been “very submissive” throughout Their marriage.
She explained that the “horrific” quarrel that occurred in July 2020 was the breaking point in their relationship, which prompted her to file for divorce.

“I didn’t want to get divorced again and start over,” Evans said, referring to her split from Schelsky in 2007.
“I imagined myself being alone and missing him and thinking: We could have tried harder.” But it took me filing for divorce, I think, for him to realize, “Oh, she’s serious.” “This is what it is,” she added.
The singer insisted that Parker was now a “completely different person” and was “happier than ever”. [she’s] since when.”
However, it took “some really long and difficult discussions” between Parker and her daughter for him to be accepted back into the family.
“You have very small shoes to fill,” she said. And he failed. “And that’s what k**led him,” Evans said.
“But we are all Christians, and I have taught my children to forgive. My three children have forgiven him and we are all back together. Every day we thank God that we are not separated.”
