Saskatoon Blades head to Winnipeg hoping to build on 10-game winning streak – Saskatoon | PKBNEWS

The Saskatoon Blades are on a 10-game winning streak so far this season and coaches say it’s all down to the tight-knit group of players.

“We have such a good group, a determined group, a cohesive group, that when things aren’t going well, you’re not off the track for very long,” said head coach Brennan Sonne.

Blades forwards Connor Roulette and Trevor Wong said the fans in the stands helped bring winning energy to the team.

“Last game, I think, we had about six or seven thousand and when they’re loud, the fans are cheering us on, it gives us the energy to keep going and keep that momentum going,” forward Wong said.

“When the fans come out, it really brings energy to the building and gives us energy and makes us want to win, so we’re very grateful to our fans,” Roulette said.

Players said they were as close to the ice as they were on the rink.

“Even away from the rink, a lot of guys like to go out, we like that you know how to go out on the town, try new things, try new restaurants, stuff like that, it’s just all those little things that add up a bit more time and when you have such a tight group like that, it’s easy to find chemistry on and off the ice,” Roulette said.

The team looks forward to their next ice fishing trip.

“We’re going somewhere this month or next month and I’ve never ice-fished. I’m from Vancouver, so nothing like that there, so I’m very excited,” Wong said.

Next, the team will head to Roulette’s hometown of Winnipeg, where the winning streak began.

“There’s first place on the line here, we’re pumped,” said coach Sonne.
