Shannen Doherty agrees to finalize divorce from estranged husband Kurt Iswarienko 1 day before she died
Shannen Doherty agreed to finalize her divorce from her estranged husband Kurt Iswarienko the day before her death.
According to People, the “Beverly Hills, 90210” alum filed papers to waive spousal support on Friday. He died on Saturday at the age of 53.
The former couple reportedly agreed to a “default or uncontested divorce” document of their marriage.
Ishwarienko, 50, signed the papers on Saturday — the day Doherty died of stage IV cancer.
Doherty filed for divorce in April 2023 after accusing Ishwarienko of cheating on him, which he denied.
The “Charmed” star accused Ishwarienko of having an affair during their 12-year marriage. The couple tied the knot in 2011.
She claimed she learned of his infidelity in January 2023 before undergoing surgery to remove a tumor from her brain.
“To not go to that surgery, even though, quite frankly, he wanted to go, I couldn’t go to that surgery with him there,” Doherty said on his podcast, “Let’s Be Clear,” in December.
“I felt so betrayed,” she continued. “At the end of the day, I felt incredibly unloved by the person I had been with for 14 years, whom I loved with all my heart. Just have to go through [health crises] When you’re trying to find out if Badshah is going to get a divorce and trying to get the truth out of it.”
Doherty was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015, undergoing a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. She went into remission in 2017, but in February 2020 she announced that her breast cancer was stage 4.
The “Heathers” actress had to deal with her controversial divorce in the last year of her life.
Last month, Doherty claimed in court documents that Ishwarenko was delaying their divorce and stopped paying spousal support until she died.
He said at the time he was not given financial information about his ex’s “archive” of photography.
“It is not right that Kurt should be allowed to prolong our divorce in hopes that I will die before he pays me while he continues to live his life and shirk his responsibilities to his deceased wife of over 11 years,” Doherty wrote in the filing. In, according to page six.
But Ishwarienko denied Doherty’s claims and insisted he wanted to finalize the divorce in September 2023 when he offered Doherty a settlement agreement which he refused.
According to Page Six, Doherty rejected Iswarienko’s settlement agreement because he “circumvented issues of his original work that he had created during his time. [their] marriage” and how much he earned.
Doherty reportedly requested Ishwarienko pay $15,343 in monthly spousal support and an additional $9,100 to cover her attorneys’ fees. He sought $11,800 for additional fees incurred “in an effort to obtain a full response from Kurt” to their legal process.
The “Our House” star said in the docs from June that her earnings were “theoretically” going to drop this year because she couldn’t work because of her cancer.
After Doherty’s death, her friend Tara Furiani, a business consultant who runs a company called Not the HR Lady, condemned Ishwarenko in a LinkedIn post.
Furiani wrote, “I am truly saddened and distraught by the death of my friend Shannon… because she was going through a divorce at the time”. He said Ishwarenko caused “deep” pain and suffering in Doherty’s life by not being a “decent man” and showing “little humanity to his dead wife”.
“Sean lost everything (including her SAG insurance) and her husband was dragging his feet with income discovery in court, in an attempt to delay a judgment or payment, until she died (where it would now be moot),” the post added.
Ishwarenko was Doherty’s third husband.
She was previously married to Rick Salomon from 1993 to 1994 and Ashley Hamilton from 2002 to 2003.
The beloved actress said on her podcast in December that even though she “failed at marriage three times,” she still believes in love.
“I also take some responsibility for the death of our marriage,” she added, referring to her relationship with Ishwarienko. “Actually, that’s not true. Let me rephrase that. I’m not responsible for the death of our marriage, I’m responsible for some of the problems in our marriage.”
Doherty had no children with her former husbands.
