Taylor Swift Wins 2023 VMAs, Makes History With Most Video of the Year Wins
Taylor Swift won the 2023 MTV VMAs on Tuesday night, taking home nine of Moon Person’s coveted awards, including video, song and artist of the year.
The superstar, 33, took the stage at New Jersey’s Prudential Center all night to claim her prizes for the hit song “Anti-Hero.”
In addition to the three biggest awards, she won Best Pop and Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Summer Show and Album of the Year for ” Midnights.”
It was nominated for 11 awards in total, losing out on Best Editing and Song of the Summer.
She thanked her team several times, bringing them on stage with her to share the spotlight. She also paid tribute to her longtime writing partner, Jack Antonoff, who was not in attendance.
The “Karma” singer even made history as the first person to win Video of the Year four times, having won for “All Too Well: The Short Film,” “Bad Blood” and “You Need to Calm Down.”
Swift’s appearance at the VMAs comes weeks after she referenced Kanye West’s infamous 2009 interruption of her acceptance speech for the Best Female Video trophy for “You Belong With Me.”
The “Cruel Summer” singer took aim at the 46-year-old rapper during the “Evermore” set of her fourth Eras Tour concert at Foro Sol Stadium in Mexico City on August 27.
“By the way, that’s the best way to get interrupted, just to have people chanting your name,” Swift told the crowd after her voice was temporarily drowned out by thunderous applause and ear-piercing screams.

“It’s really the only way to get interrupted,” she added. “And I would know.”
In the infamous 2009 moment, West grabbed the mic from Swift’s hands to declare that Beyoncé should have won the award instead.
“Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’ll let you finish.” But Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! West said at the time of Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” music video.
When Beyoncé won later in the evening, she invited Swift on stage to “have her moment.”
Swift has had many moments – and victories – since then. She has 14 Moon Person statuettes to her credit, just behind Madonna, who has 20.
Swift could beat the Queen of Pop if she wins at least six of her eight categories at tonight’s ceremony.
This year, Swift is nominated for Artist of the Year, Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best Cinematography, Best Direction, Best Visual Effects and Best Editing, all for his 2022 single “Anti-Hero.”
