He’s not kidding.
Tom Brady told his three children that it’s important to fail in life because it will show them how resilient they can be.
“I don’t want things to go well for my kids all the time,” Brady, 45, said on Monday’s episode of “Let’s Go!” podcast. “I told them that this morning. I said, ‘I want you to fail because I want to see what you’re made of if you fail and when you fail.’
He added: “Life will not be just a smooth ride. So we need to build resilience.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers player – who shares Vivian, 10, and Benjamin, 13, with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen and son Jack, 15, with his ex-partner Bridget Moynahan – explained that the failure allows people to be resilient.
“In life, you try a lot of things and you fail. It’s part of life. We’re trying things, really trying hard to try…something new, and it’s not going the way we want it to,” he said.
“So what do you do? Do you care less? Do you care more? Or do you take this experience for what it was and try to learn from it and grow and find resilience what do we all want to teach our children?”
And when asked if the quarterback thinks his kids are afraid of failure, he said it’s hard for anyone to struggle with failure.
“I think naturally it’s probably hard for everyone in our society to feel like you can fail or say the wrong thing,” he said. “There are heavy repercussions to even admitting that you fail.”
He added that at the end of the day, life isn’t about winning a game or a Super Bowl: it’s about relationships.
“Life is about people,” Brady said. “…My life is so rich because of the amazing people I’ve had in my life who have supported me to help me achieve my dreams in so many ways over and over again.”
He added: “Now I have these great kids that I learn from and I just try to be a good parent and be there for them and be a good example and a role model.”
Brady said he tells his kids they just have to do their best.
“I don’t care if you win or lose. Do your best and you will be proud. We’re all okay with that if you did your best,” he said.
Brady and Bündchen, 42, share joint custody of their two children after finalizing their divorce in October 2022. They have been married for 13 years, having tied the knot in 2009.
Page Six exclusively reported that Brady and Bündchen separately visited an elite Miami private school for their children this week.
After their split, the model quietly purchased an $11.5 million mansion in Miami across from Brady’s estate.
Bündchen reportedly decided to end things with Brady when he decided to resume his NFL career after initially announcing he was retiring from the sport.
“There have been problems in the marriage because of his decision not to retire,” a source told us at the time. “Gisèle has always been the one with the children. They had agreed that he would retire to focus on family, then he changed his mind.
