Tyla is completely covered in real sand on the 2024 Met Gala red carpet

Tyla’s ephemeral dress gives new meaning to the hourgla*s silhouette.

The “Water” singer, 22, hit the red carpet at the 2024 Met Gala wearing a sand-covered Balmain gown with a matching hourgla*s-shaped handbag.

While tonight’s dress was “Garden of Time,” she instead took inspiration from “The Sands of Time” for her signature design, as she explained during the Vogue live broadcast.

Balmain’s creative director Olive Rousteing echoed the fashion outlet that “the idea of sculpting a dress from something as ephemeral as sand sparked my imagination and I couldn’t be happier with the end result.”

The strapless design was based on a mold of the singer’s body before the organza train was coated in three different colors of sand – plus tiny crystal studs for extra sparkle.

Teyla probably had better hope that no one would make her sweat at the Met, since it’s unclear how the dress could withstand the wear and tear.

She did, however, bring some water to the event, in the form of her own nail polish, which had clear drops stuck to the tip.

When asked by E! On the red carpet whether she was able to sit in a sculpted style, she replied: “Who cares guys, I’m cute!”

I got some help navigating the museum steps at the beginning of the night, where five men were seen carrying the decorated train. She also received a lift, where the same a*sistants physically lifted her up the stairs.

The star completed her look with new sparkles from Pat McGrath Labs, including Skin Fetish Foundation ($69) and a shimmering swipe of Lust Lip Gloss in Faux Real ($29).

She added extra sparkle to the look with dazzling embellishments, including the Alexis Bittar Sola**les Crystal Skinny Collar ($255).

Tonight marked the South African singer’s Met Gala debut, although she’s no stranger to turning heads on red carpets.

At the 2024 Grammy Awards — where she took home her first-ever statuette — she stunned in a mint green off-the-shoulder Versace look.

As time goes by, it’s safe to say she’ll be looking even more gorgeous than Tyla on the horizon.
