Usher mourns the death of his grandmother Tina: “I feel a little lost right now”

Usher says a part of him “continues to break silently” as he mourns the loss of his grandmother, Ernestine Carter, who died at her Chattanooga home on Dec. 24. She was 87 years old.

“It took me a few days to realize the fact that my grandmother Tina is no longer with me,” he captioned a series of photos of the two of them together via Instagram on Tuesday.

“Her daily devotion was to help those in need and she did just that. It was her life’s work. She was truly a prayer warrior for me and so many others. I feel a bit lost right now.”

While the ‘U Got It Bad’ singer said part of him tries to be strong for others, the other part “continues to break silently.”

“We were just laughing a few days ago… I really thought we had more time,” he added.

Usher said Carter’s last words were, “There’s a time for all my son…there’s a time to laugh, a time to cry…there’s a time to live and a time to die.”

The ‘Moving Mountains’ singer admitted he needed his ‘earth angel’ grandmother ‘right now more than ever’, adding that he needed to hear her voice ‘one more time. “.

“Someone said to me today, ‘Keep in mind it’s only sad because we miss them and we’re being selfish and rightly so, but it’s really a celebration of congratulations because that they are in the ultimate place forever!’ I believe that… she will be greatly missed,” he concluded.

Usher did not disclose Carter’s cause of death.
