Wallis Island

Running time: 100 minutes. Not yet rated. March 25 in the theater.

At first glance, the plot of “Wallis Island”, one of the most pleasing surprises of this year's Sundance Film Festival, looks like a sub-standard Rome-Kom.

A former Folk Rock pair, who was also a romantic couple until the group was dramatically divided, was only invited to a reunion concert on a remote British island for a big expended visitors.

This foundation can be a recipe of ridiculousness. Adam Sandler's thing on the Hawaiian shirt or Jennifer Anniston was hiding from one of a tree behind a tree. But Kerry Muligan, Tom Basden and The Wonderful Team Key are these enthusiasm and nothing more than human jokes, cookies or overbells. I admired every second of it.

Guided by James Griffiths, it is Hellerius Heart Warmer, which only comes once a year or twice a year to break blessings from dark, snowbury and streaming sculks. It's so easy to love, even if love doesn't come easy for its characters.

The prickly band is McGuier Mortimer and the first member of the motorboat is Cranky Herb McGuier (Basden). The population of Wallis Island is so small that it has no dock, so the rocker is forced to land with three feet of water to land.

“Is there a port there?!!”

“No. It is in nature's Harbor, Initate, “Purple Optimist Charles (Key).

There is no hotel. And Charles, Herb has soon learned, his IDCINCRATIC Host – a joyful block who speaks in Pangs and was surprised in money after winning the lottery. He is bringing a cool $ 500,000 to the herbal to pull his guitar strings on the beach.

But Charles has left some important details about Gig: Herb will only perform for him (“Its, less than 100 people,” he is food) and he will join his ex -girlfriend and Nel Mortimer (Muligan), his ex -girlfriend and ex -bandmate, With whom he does not speak anymore. Nowadays he is enjoying a quiet life in Oregon's Portland, selling home -made chutney with new boyfriend Michael (Akemji Ndifornin). Both musicians need money to become desperate.

Why Charles is emptying his pockets just for a one-night show? He is a superfan, yes, but his late wife was Mary who died five years ago. Hearing McGuier Mortimer has saved his love, even the ancient history of Herb and Nell. He asked them to respect the memory of Mari here.

It adds a hint of depth and sorrow that creates the movie.

When the pair emphasize together, they are warm as Antarctica. And the stubborn herbal hits refuse to play old hits so they don't open the old wounds. Soon, though they both are cracking laughter and feeling magic again.

Low skilled hands, a claimant's famous singer can stumble in the parody, but Basden never lean on clichés. His celebrity mood is subtle-“spinal tap”-and the actor creates a related middle-life crisis from herbal trait to stay relevant. He is a loving Jackus.

And he effortlessly clicked with Muligan, who was like Nel-like-stream-stvy nick if Fleetwood Mac Singer was a neighbor next to your suburbs. Due to her biography, the actress is not usually involved in short. Yet he is a dream of this genre. The gravita that follows him like a train train and Gravita adds the complexity and part of a foolish situation.

They are dual in the original song of their era. And they are pretty good.

However, “Wallis Island” is truly the story of Charles. Key, a British comedian who is less familiar Stateside, is horribly funny and naturally dear to a person whose stupid ecstasy secures his pain. Whenever he is in it, he owns the screen.

And, as a joke on the original piles joke, the viewer never tired the bit. It just becomes fun. The actor is suitable for the part, it is probably because he and the Basden screenplay are historic, life-confirmation and subtlely sensitive.

The man's 48, but once the audience sees this picture, they will come down to the door to see more. “Wallis Island” will open many doors for the key.
