Why is ‘Dateline NBC’ not being aired this week? NBC’s hit crime show makes way for summer events
Los Angeles, California: ‘Dateline NBC’ is off the air this week as NBC focuses on broadcasting the 2024 Paris Olympics and will return only after August 15. As the network’s flagship summer event, the Olympics have extensive coverage of various sports, including opening and closing ceremonies, live events and athlete profiles.
Olympic coverage would take up significant airtime, leading to the temporary replacement of Dateline NBC’s other regular programming. The show will return to its regular schedule after the Olympics, allowing viewers to catch up on their favorite crime stories and investigative journalism.
On July 26, 2024, the Paris Olympics began with a historic opening ceremony. For the first time, the event was not held at the stadium. Instead, more than 10,000 athletes and 100 boats made their way along the Seine River for about 3.7 miles, ending at the Trocadero, with the iconic Eiffel Tower as a backdrop.

What happened on the last episode of ‘Dateline NBC’?
The final episode of ‘Dateline NBC’ featured Pam Zimmerman, a successful financial planner in Bloomington, Illinois, who was tragically shot and killed in her office on November 4, 2014. Pam was a devoted mother of three who was recently engaged. Whirlwind Romance Her death was a shock to her family and friends, who immediately became concerned when she did not come home the night before.
Pam’s body was discovered by her neighbor and close friend, Julie Koh, and her office manager, Ina Hess. He was found lying in a fetal position near the front desk. An autopsy revealed that Pam had been shot four times: twice in the chest, once in the temple and once in the back. His cell phone and wallet were initially missing but were later dumped on the side of the road.
Police investigated several possible suspects, centering on Pam’s ex-husband Kirk Zimmerman; her fiancĂ©, Scott Baldwin; and a former client, Eldon Whitlow. Kirk Zimmerman, although divorced from Pam, had ongoing financial disputes with her and disputes over unpaid expenses. Scott Baldwin was considered because of his suspicious behavior and contact with other women, but his alibi was verified. Eldon Whitlow, who owned a similar type of handgun, was cleared after his weapon was found not to have been used in the crime.
Despite Kirk insisting his innocence and showing his alibi that he was not at the scene, he was arrested after gunshot residue was found in his car. The prosecution argued that financial motives motivated Kirk to commit the crime, but his defense presented evidence that challenged the prosecution’s claim. The jury ultimately found Kirk not guilty, leading to mixed reactions from the public and Pam’s family. The case remains unsolved in finding Pam’s true killer, leaving her family and friends searching for justice.
