Manitoba’s Independent Investigations Unit (IIU) is investigating the events surrounding a recent arrest in Winnipeg that resulted in serious injury to a woman.
The incident happened on Sunday and the IUI was notified Monday by the Winnipeg Police Service.
According to the first report, at 11:13 p.m. Sunday, police responded to a distress call involving a woman who had broken into a residence and allegedly a*saulted people.
Officers encountered what they called a combative woman and during her arrest police used force which seriously injured the suspect.
She was taken to Concordia Hospital, where a medical evaluation confirmed a fractured right tibia.
Under IUI regulations, a broken tibia is considered a serious injury, triggering the IUI’s mandate to fully investigate the incident.
