what do you know

The Houston Rockets will take on the New Orleans Pelicans at 8:00 PM ET on Thursday at the Smoothie King Center after taking a few days off. There is no doubt that the Rockets are hoping to end a six-game losing streak on the road.

The point differential may have been in the Rockets’ favor last Wednesday, but the final score was not. They fell 121-113 to Memphis.

Despite their loss, the Rockets broke down the offensive barriers and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. They easily outscored their opponents in this department as the Grizzlies only managed eight offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, the Pelicans had already won two games in a row (a stretch in which they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 points), and they cruised to a third win last Wednesday. They outrebounded Washington 133-126. The high offensive effort was a huge turnaround for the Pelicans considering their 96-point performance in the previous contest.

Zion Williamson shined for the Pelicans, scoring 36 points in addition to eight a*sists and six rebounds. Williamson didn’t help the Pelicans’ cause much against the Grizzlies last Monday but the same can’t be said for this matchup. The team also got some help thanks to CJ McCollum, who had 26 points and six a*sists.

Houston hasn’t been sharp lately as the team has lost five of their last six meetings, putting their record at 24-30 on the season. As for New Orleans, they’ve been on a roll lately: They’ve won seven of their last eight games, providing a nice boost to their 33-22 record this season.

In this competition, the number of possessions will likely be a big factor: The Rockets haven’t given up the ball easily this season, averaging 12.4 turnovers per game. However, it doesn’t look like the Pelicans are struggling in that department, as they are averaging just 12.6 turnovers per game. Given these competing strengths, it will be interesting to see how their conflict will develop.

The Rockets are hoping to overcome the odds on Thursday, as experts believe they are headed toward a loss. For those looking to play the spread, watch out: Houston is playing on the road, but their 9-16-1 record against the spread as such isn’t exactly encouraging.
