Katie Couric claims former ‘Today’ anchor Bryant Gumbel had a ‘s*xist attitude’ about maternity leave

Katie Couric claimed that Bryant Gumbel, her former “Today” show host, had an “incredibly s*xist attitude” about maternity leave.

“He got mad at me because I was doing something on maternity leave,” she recalled on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” show Sunday. “He would give me endless leave in exchange for taking a month or two off. I was having my first child.”

Couric, 67, alleged that Gamble, 75, asked her why she couldn’t “just leave it in the field and get back to work right away.”

Maher, a 68-year-old mother of two, said it sounded like the “Real Sports” graduate was joking.

“No, he was joking,” Couric said. “He was cheating on me but he was giving me a lot of taunts, but that was emblematic of an incredibly s*xist attitude.”

Page Six reached out to a Gumbel representative but did not immediately receive a response.

Although Couric seemed to take issue with some of Gamble’s comments, she admired how great a “talent” he was on the show.

“He’s a man’s man. He’s a man’s man, you’ve got that right. He’s been prickly but I mean what a talent. He’s a smooth, eloquent broadcaster,” she said.

“When that countdown happens, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, it will produce the perfect result.”

Gamble began working on the “Today” show in 1982 and Couric joined him in 1991. The two journalists worked together until the father of two left the show in 1997.

Couric shares her daughters Elinor (Ellie), 32, and Caroline (Carrie), 28, with her late ex-husband Jay Monahan, who died in January 1998 of colon cancer.

The “Blue Ribbon Day” author then married John Molner in June 2014.

Last month, Couric became a grandmother after her daughter, Ellie, gave birth to a baby boy, John Albert Dobroski.

“I’m so happy to have my first granddaughter, Carrie can’t wait to be a great aunt, and Molner is having fun handing out cigars,” she wrote on Instagram at the time alongside snapshots of the newborn with his relatives.

“We feel so blessed. 💙🥰🍼👶🏻💙.”
