National police involved and investigation underway after fan allegedly made racist gesture towards Aurelien Choumeni during Mallorca v Real Madrid

Despite their excellent performances, it seems that La Liga is yet to recognize Real Madrid’s young players. The football world is no stranger to the ordeal of racism against one of Real Madrid’s top talents, Vinicius Jr.

But one more player than that ‘Los Blancos’ Victims of racism. The club’s French midfielder Aurelien Choumeni was racially abused by RCD Mallorca fans in their last La Liga encounter.

It was reported that a fan of the home team made a monkey gesture towards the Frenchman. Movistar’s camera footage revealed the entire incident and the accused appears to be a minor. The same fan threw water bottles at Real Madrid players as they celebrated the club’s 1-0 win.

Mallorca fans have gained notoriety for constantly targeting Real Madrid players. Also in the 22/23 season, Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior was abused by a section of Mallorca fans. Furthermore, the Brazilian has been regularly racially abused by fans of some La Liga clubs.

Even after Real Madrid’s repeated complaints, and the player’s social media activism, La Liga authorities have done virtually nothing to curb racism in the Spanish football system. Moreover, the fact that the accused in Choumeni’s case is a minor shows how systematic and deeply rooted racism is in Spain.

RCD Mallorca issued a statement regarding the alleged racism against Aurelian Choumeni

The home club looked quite embarra*sed by the behavior of some of its fans on matchday 31 of La Liga 23/24. The team, who are 15th in Spain’s top flight, also issued a statement expressing their grief over the incident.

RCD Mallorca wrote in a statement, “Yesterday in the match between RCD Mallorca and Real Madrid, images were identified in which a person made a racist gesture. The club has activated the protocol against violence in football and is cooperating with the national police in identifying this person.”

The club reiterated that it does not condone any acts of racism towards players and will work to remove social ills from the game. It also promised that the club would cooperate with law enforcement agencies to identify the perpetrators. Finally, RCD Mallorca believes that racism alone cannot define every Mallorcan who is otherwise very respectful of their counterparts.

Aurelian’s goal sealed Real Madrid’s crucial victory over Mallorca

Despite the racist encounter, Aurelian Choumeni had an important role in the game. The Frenchman scored the winner in a game that ended 1-0 against Mallorca. Aurelian’s goal came in the 48th minute when his long-range shot went into the top right corner. The bench of Real Madrid is excited to see such a great goal of the French player.

Carlo Ancelotti rested several players in the game against Mallorca in view of their upcoming match in the UEFA Champions League. Vinicius Junior, Camavinga and Dani Carvajal were all substitutes who entered the field in the second half.
