Suri Cruise celebrates her 18th birthday in rainy New York City while estranged father Tom works in London

Suri Cruise was photographed celebrating her 18th birthday in New York City while her estranged father, Tom Cruise, was working abroad in London.

According to photos obtained by Page Six, the birthday girl went out in the rainy weather with a friend on Thursday. Colleagues spoke as Suri held a pink umbrella over their heads.

The teenager, who is also Katie Holmes’ daughter, was wearing jeans and a denim jacket over a brown shirt and black shoes. She was carrying a blue backpack and holding what looked like a Christmas present in her hand.

The day before Suri’s big day, her dad Tom was spotted out and about in London filming a new project.

The 61-year-old “Mission Impossible” star smiled broadly as he arrived at the helipad and piloted a plane.

Tom and his younger daughter have not had a close relationship over the past years. In fact, a source exclusively told Page Six earlier this month that the movie star hasn’t seen Suri since 2012 (they were last seen together at Disney World that summer).

“Katie has protected Suri and is a devoted mother,” the insider told us. “This is an ordinary citizen girl. She has not lived her life in public.”

Holmes, who filed for divorce from Tom when Suri was just 6 years old in June 2012, previously told Glamor that she wanted to keep her daughter out of the public eye “because she was so visible at a young age.”

The 45-year-old also revealed in November 2013 court documents that she filed for divorce from Tom to “protect Suri from Scientology,” a religion often referred to as a cult.

While Holmes is believed to have signed several non-disclosure agreements to prevent her from talking about her marriage to Tom and the Church of Scientology, Suri will be free to discuss the religion and her father now that she is a legal adult.

Although it’s unclear if the teen will speak publicly about her father, she won’t be joining Scientology anytime soon.

“Suri is not a Scientologist and never will be… She deserves love and compa*sion,” former Scientology spokesman Mike Rinder told Page Six.
