UFC fans turned matchmakers after the UFC 302 fight card failed to impress
UFC 300 went down this past weekend and brought some important announcements for the future. With a packed schedule for June on the cards, many big names are set to work. Despite some big-name announcements, fans aren’t particularly enamored with UFC 302.
Previously, UFC President Dana White announced the headliner and co-main event for UFC 302, which takes place on June 1 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. As the headliner, we will see Islam Makhachev make his return to defend the lightweight throne against Dustin Poirier. On the other hand, Shawn Strickland will face Paulo Costa in the co-main event.

With the announcement, like UFC 303, without a special promotion, fans were overwhelmed by the announcements. While the card, along with Saudi Arabia and the UFC 303 card, makes for an action-packed June, the way it unfolded left much to be desired. As it turns out, the same can be said when the rest of the UFC 302 card is revealed.
Fans are giving their thoughts on the Makhachev vs Poirier full fight card
In a recent press release, the promotion unveiled the remaining UFC 302 fights. While many had already expressed mixed feelings over Dustin Poirier’s chance to fight Islam Makhachev, the rest of the card, or at least some of it, made up for one. As terrifying a read as it was, fans were quick to share their thoughts on it as well.
For the most part, in addition to the aforementioned bouts, the card includes Roman Dolidze vs. Anthony Hernandez, Zelton Almeida vs. Alexander Romanov, Randy Brown vs. Elijeu dos Santos, Nico Price vs. Alex Morono, and Sumudarji vs. Joshua Vann. A few more fights. All things considered, the card has some solid fighters and up-and-coming talent, yet lacks a bona fide superstar to top it off.
The UFC announced the card for UFC 302 via press release:
Makhachev v. Poirier
Strickland v. Costa
Zelton v. Romanov
Randy Brown vs. EZ Dos Santos
Hyunsung Park vs. Andre Lima
Price vs. Morono
Dolidze vs. Fluffy
C. Almeida v. Kopilov

Given the stacked nature of UFC 300 and the cards surrounding it, one can understand why it is lagging behind. Some could blame UFC 300 for setting the bar too high for the rest of the year. Either way, fans feel that such cards shouldn’t be so heavy on their pockets, with ticket prices going through the roof. All in all, barring a few select bouts, the event largely received a ‘meh’ response from fans.
A fan’s guide on how to improve UFC 302
For the most part, reception to UFC 302 has obviously been a mixed bag. Considering it has some very watchable fights and notable talent, it still misses the ‘it’ factor over the top. While Islam Makhachev, Dustin Poirier, Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa will draw much attention, the rest of the main card will be the main focus. Currently, we have not received the official out order yet.
That being said, the card is well ahead of UFC 301 which takes place later this month in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With the card barely resembling a Fight Night card, UFC 302 is much better. As such, fans, while voicing their thoughts on it, have also suggested that adding another big-name fight to the main card would go a long way.
According to many, the card is severely off after the co-main and needs one more matchup to potentially be a good card. However, considering UFC 303 and UFC 304 are coming to Manchester, the options may be quite limited. Even so, if the UFC puts on another must-watch fan-friendly fight, the card could be in competition with UFC 299, UFC 298, and other cards we have and have yet to see this year.
